‘Everything is miscellaneous’

My read of a week ago is still being minded.

Written a decade ago it suggests why messaging has largely died out.

‘Blogs emphasise individuality. If you read someone’s blog for a while, their personality shines through, and it is possible to appreciate the complexity that makes them real person once that happens, conversation comes more naturally’.

Messaging involves simplicity (dumbing down) and repetition whereas conversations allow people to explore ideas in depth and tease out issues. With messaging feedback is usually stilted and formal – the suggestions box, the focus group, the satisfaction survey, and so on. With conversations, the feedback can be more layered, subtle, and immediate.’

I then wrote ‘All of page 50.’

Which is unfortunate … I’ve taken the book back to the library :(

The key word I hear repeated whenever social media is discussed is ‘the conversation’; that between tweets and blogs we want to be part of a social network, sharing ideas and thoughts with (qualified by research) ‘like minds’.

It may not be many minds either, it may only be one or two who share your individual take on the world.
