Every week I take three swim teaching classes with 8-11 year olds.
Out of a habit started five or more years ago I keep notes, these serve two, perhaps three purposes:
1) To reflect on what I am doing (what might I do differently or better next time),
2) For assessment purposes I have a record (with swimmers this includes a detailed history of their progress with the competitive strokes including personal best times and events)
3) For sharing with others (ostensibly for skills development, though it may also awaken an interest). They are not meant to identify the individual as
- a) this would in all likelihood be counterproductive
- b) for child protection reasons I should not be giving away personal details.
I’ve tried making up names or having other descriptors none which are satisfactory.
The answer is to fall back on narrative and to say enough to indicate the pertinent impression the person exudes in relation to the issues you deal with.
So how do I apply this to adults?
The same thinking. How are private thoughts and notes expressed? And to what end?
In this case I’m talking about student copywriters and art directors, ‘ideapreneurs’ at the School of Communication Arts.
