There’s a video of this production in Trinity Gardens somewhere. Perhaps I have a copy? I played Baptista, not my best of roles, I’d been Mercutio in a production of Romeo & Juliet. Other plays I appeared in? I’d need to look through the diaries, but I tried to be in a play most terms.

  1. Hi! I was also in it, playing Grumio. Do you really have a video? I remember it as being enormous fun.

    1. I have about an hour of rehearsals, the play itself is too dark to see much sadly. I kept a poster too. I should look up some clips and put them online. Oxford University taped. https://wordpress.com/post/oxforduniversityonvideo.wordpress.com/6

  2. Please do, Jonathan. Actually, the full hour would be most welcome. Many thanks.

If I recall correctly, Lucy Maycock was Kate, and for some inexplicable reason didn’t go on to be a famous actor. Pete Wingfield as Tranio did though. Alastair Blackie became a theatrical agent. Can’t remember anyone else. The director was Geoffrey something. I still have a slight urge to give off a weak cheer when I hear the word “Padua”.

    Apologies for the double reply

    1. No worries. I have a programme somewhere. I’ll get the footage up when I can and let you know. I’ve loaded far too much onto the MAC and it isn’t happy.

Thanks. I have a daughter now immersed in Oxford drama and little seems to have changed apart from the haircuts.

  6. :) I’ve found the footage. 1 hour 209 mins of rehearsals. The whole play? A bit scratchy and the sound not great but I’ll see if I can figure out how to get it online. I’ll put up some screengrabs.
