Five-Year Diary: Wednesday, 31st March 1976
Bath, in case she is there.
Tennis at the Northumberland Tennis Ground at 9.30. I’m useless at serving.
“Toss it higher. Same place. Every time.”
Had any of my mates been around, there’d have been a lot of nudge-nudge wink-wink ‘know what I mean’ about tossing.
Moved to backhand.
I learned the girl’s name. She has lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Go to Gosforth swimming baths to train, but don’t stay in for long, as several schools are in the area, making lane swimming impossible.
Walk home.
See Gran & Grandpa on the way, both decorating the front room,
Lunch. Pebble Mill at One.
Buy “Musician”
Write a book. I have ambition.
Very windy cycling to see my girlfriend. She’s very nice, but we broke the record player!
Watch TV, Leo Sayer. Not my thing. Too middle of the road.
Supper.
TV:
Survivors: ‘Birth of Hope’ Episode 2
Then ‘Luke’s Kingdom’, a series set in New South Wales, Australia, in the late 1820s and known as an “Eastern Western”. It was about the harsh reality of colonial life – a Western without Indians. The haircuts were more early-1970s than late-1820s, ditto the styling and makeup.Â
The lead character was a nasty piece of work with a decidedly cruel streak. He was motivated by just two things – his desire to succeed as a rancher by any means and his quasi-incestuous love for his sister Jassy.
Diary.
Hot water bottle – the cure-all for a mild cold.
