Very tired. Awake early.
Dad had told us to ring him, finish the film, and make breakfast.
Dad is still in bed.
We take our bags down to the gate, through the carport. My brother gives us a ride on his motorbike—half illicit, half routine. Dad is still in bed.
He has to ring France.
I bought a book on Appleby Castle—Martin Holmes. My pay for painting the fence: £13. Fifty pence an hour.
Dad drives us to Scotch Corner. Mum meets us. Transfer complete.
Home to Gosforth.
Tired.
Buy a copy of Musician. Lunch. Bus into town. Wandering. Shop windows.
I bought a Genesis record.
I start writing a TV idea:
You’ll Die of Water — a gypsy curse, based on a true story.
Supper. Bath.
A new theme is emerging.
“Tonight on Author…”
I decided on the first.
