Fifty years ago: Friday, 11th June 1976
I got up early to do my Latin prep, finishing off a paragraph before breakfast.
Breakfast: I always make sure I have a good breakfast. So many people are too tired to eat properly in the mornings, and I can’t understand how they manage. It must be the heat, or exam season.
Divinity: We got our work back. I felt I should have done better
Maths: although really, I hadn’t done badly at all.
P.E., we did individual work — mats, hurdles and things like that — before break.
Geography: We were given a new book about the Nile, which looked promising. After lunch, we worked on electric circuits in Physics, and later had another Geography lesson with H.O.K. Maths prep involved using calculators.
By the end of the day, I felt depressed about swimming, though I did set a Junior record. Depressed isn’t the right word, more disappointed, bored, disengaged with it all – what’s the point of boarding school when there is so much more to life that I am missing out on?
