What’s a book you think deserves a sequel?
The first book that springs to mind is Robert Heinlein’s Time Enough for Love. Its protagonist, Lazarus Long, has lived for more than two thousand years and is finally tired of life. The novel gives us tantalising glimpses of dozens of different eras, adventures, romances and identities he has inhabited across those centuries. Heinlein uses these fragments to explore history, morality, family, politics and human nature, but they are only fragments. I always felt there were many more stories hidden between the pages.
In a sense, the book is already a sequel to countless unwritten novels. I would happily have read another volume tracing more of Lazarus Long’s lives, perhaps focusing on a handful of centuries in greater detail. Few authors have created a character with such scope for further exploration.
Other possibilities come to mind, but perhaps that is the best answer. The first book that occurs to you is often the right one.
