What’s the best and worst airport you’ve been to?

Best? The ones you barely notice because you slip through them with ease. Barbados springs to mind: modest-sized, manageable, almost like a family-run airport.

Worst? Juba, South Sudan. I was once on a bargain-basement flight from the UK to Nairobi which included an unscheduled landing at Juba. Everyone — and all our luggage — was taken off the plane while our passports were checked. There was a machine-gun post. Anti-aircraft guns and men with submachine guns watched our every move. Eventually we were allowed back on and continued to Nairobi.

One passenger joined us for the next leg with a goat.

That rather raised the bar for memorable airport experiences.
