What’s the first impression you want to give people?
I go with the line about ‘first impressions’ which is why for some decades I did well at interviews – as I changed job for the umpteenth time. Though I was freelance for 17 years so ‘job interviews’ is a moot point.
Who I am, what I do and where I came from will vary to suit the occasion. Somewhere I have written about being like the children’s cartoon character Mr.Ben. I might be ‘Ranger’ in wellies out in the woods in a waxed jacket, a swimming coach in sports shorts and polo top, or skiing, or sailing, or inking up Lino, or dressed in civic garb as a Town Councillor.
All suggesting that chameleon like I am likely to appear on first meeting a person just as they would expect – I fit in.
Only to disappoint them some weeks or months later by showing them that I do not.
