(Sedbergh School, age 14)

I didn’t sleep very well. Too hot and too much light, and Branston snores.

Chemistry: tests back, good scores

English: poems back, good marks.

Physics: Talk to Mike. We’d been at Mowden together and in the choir as head chorister.

Break: no post! My unreliable umbilical cord to the outside world. I like a letter, even if it’s just a statement for my music or newspaper subscription.

Latin: I feel like a stone statue. Impervious.

I tell the barber my hair is short enough.

Music: flute lesson

Biology: on syncytium

Swim: two hard, no IM. Competitive starts and relays.

Project Centre: I design a new cassette rack. Wood and Dowling.
